Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Sound Transit has temporarily suspended issuance of new carpool (HOV), single occupant vehicle (SOV) and ORCA Lift SOV permits at all park and rides. Valid MARCH 2020 permits may be displayed to park in permit areas through April and beyond, until further notice. Permit applications accepted during this period will be placed on a wait list and processed in the order received once permit fees are reinstated. Sound Transit anticipates lifting the suspension of permit issuance and reinstating fees at each eligible facility when it is again regularly filled to or in excess of 90% of weekday capacity. Please contact Transit Services for all inquiries at: Transit.riders@reefparking.com. By Phone at: 1-253-327-1249. Office hours are 8:00AM to 4:00PM Weekdays.
How it Works: Sound Transit facilities and services are funded by taxes levied on the residents of the Sound Transit Taxing District, which covers urban areas within King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties. In July 2018, the Sound Transit Board of Directors adopted a resolution requiring that parking permits be limited exclusively to District residents. To determine whether you live within the Sound Transit District, check your vehicle license plate registration invoice to see if you pay taxes for the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority [RTA] (“Sound Transit”). If you are subject to RTA taxes, based on the address associated with your vehicle registration, then you are eligible for the HOV and SOV permit at selected Sound Transit parking facilities. To see the District boundary, and check your address, please visit: "RTA Check" The application process: Applicants must provide basic contact information and transit pass or fare payment card number, such as an ORCA Card, ORCA Lift Reduced Fare Card or U-pass number. Types of permits offered: Carpool Permits (HOV): Groups of two or more commuters who regularly drive together to participating park-and rides to use buses and trains, are eligible to apply for carpool parking permits. Permits for this facility are free of charge to eligible carpool groups. Permits provide permit holders exclusive access to designated permit parking areas at this location on weekdays between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. At least two people must be present in the vehicle when parking in the carpool permit area. At least two carpool members must use their registered transit pass or fare card to travel by bus or train from the permitted station at least 12 days per month, during permit enforcement hours. Parking in the carpool permit zones without at least two people in the vehicle is prohibited. Use of the carpool permit without two or more persons in the vehicle when parking in the permit zone during permit hours is prohibited. Repeat violators may lose their carpool permit and have their account closed. Single Occupant Vehicle Permit (SOV): The SOV permit provides exclusive access to designated permit parking areas at this location on weekdays between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM (after 9:00 AM permit spaces may be used by anyone on a first-come, first-served basis). The SOV permit holder must continue to ride transit from the assigned station at least 12 days per month (during permit enforcement hours), to qualify for monthly permit renewals. If ridership requirements are not met, permits will be revoked. Orca Lift SOV Permit: Single Occupant Vehicle (SOV) permits are provided at a reduced rate (1/3 of the standard rate) to Orca Lift reduced fare card holders, and Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) holders who are income-qualified for the ORCA Lift program. Please Note: U-Pass and ORCA card holders who are income qualified for the ORCA Lift reduced fare program must obtain an ORCA Lift card in order to apply for the ORCA Lift discounted rate for SOV parking permits. For more information on the ORCA Lift reduced fare program, to view income qualifications, or to obtain a card, visit: "Orca Lift Info" RRFP applicants for Orca Lift parking permits: Transit riders who are 65 years of age or older, those with a qualified disability, and Medicare card holders are eligible for a Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) card. For more information, or to obtain a RRFP card, please visit "RRFP Info" RRFP card holders are eligible for ORCA Lift rate for parking permits at participating Sound Transit parking facilities if they ALSO meet the household income requirements for participation in the ORCA Lift reduced transit fare program.
